Residents of a Teesside community have been asked whether they would be better off being served by a sole council rather than being split between two authorities.
Nunthorpe is divided between Middlesbrough and Redcar and Cleveland Councils - with the railway line forming the boundary between the two.
But Will Goodhand, the Conservative parliamentary candidate for Middlesbrough South and East Cleveland, wants the community to have a “strong united voice” and sent out a survey to gauge opinion on the matter.
“We know this is something that the people of Nunthorpe are very frustrated about,” he said.
“I hear from the residents that they need one coherent voice speaking up for it.
“Decisions get made in Middlesbrough and Redcar at a distance from local people, and planning decisions which will have an impact on the village as a whole are split between two councils.
“What’s more, the two councils are not talking to each other: the proposed Low Gill development by Gypsy Lane would eliminate the Eastern Link Road option for an East Middlesbrough by-pass - and yet still there is no plan being formulated to sort out Nunthorpe’s and South Middlesbrough as a whole’s infrastructure.
“Nunthorpe needs a strong united voice to speak up on these issues.”
Mr Goodhand has received the responses and will now be collating the information he has received.
