The Prime Minister, David Cameron asked Will Goodhand to invite two community champions from the Teesside and East Cleveland area to a reception at No 10 Downing Street.
Will Goodhand, the Conservative Parliamentary candidate for Middlesbrough South and East Cleveland, has chosen two fantastic people to represent the work being done by our area’s voluntary groups and the great number of people who give up their own time to improve our area:
Lorna Buckle from Guisborough:
Lorna has long been a key figure in Guisborough life, indeed she was elected Guisborough Citizen of the Year 2012. Involved in Guisborough Town Pride since 1996, Guisborough Life magazine, the DeBrus Trail devoted to the study of the north's medieval rulers, Lorna has also worked to overhaul Guisborough Cemetry and is involved in the Ladies Circle and Round Table. She is passionate about inspiring young people, connecting local schools with opportunities for children to look after areas of our local environment.
Jeanette Bowen from Marton:
Jeanette has long been a central figure in the Middlesbrough community of Marton. She has been instrumental in the Friends of Fairy Dell, protecting this local beauty spot, in the course of which they have found artefacts from the 1300s. She has been doing huge amounts of work to obtain a vital Heritage Lottery Fund grant. Further, Jeanette has been Secretary of the Community Council for some years.
Will comments:
"I applaud the work and dedication from all those across our area who are devoted to improving the lives of others and our communities. I am very pleased to be able to invite Jeanette and Lorna to Number 10 as a special thank you to them and in doing so to recognise all those who work so hard in their own time, they are true community champions who have made a richly positive difference to life in our area.”
